Care & Maintenance
You already know Kingsley returns are manufactured with pride in the USA to last a lifetime. With the simple maintenance routine below and minimal effort, your Kingsley return will keep looking new and trouble-free.
Exterior Returns
- Powder coated finishes
- Need regular washing with a mild detergent and water to retain their new appearance.
- Polishing is usually not necessary but will enhance the overall look of the unit if done so.
- Graffiti-X™ Finish
- A liquid or cream style Carnauba wax can be used to remove graffiti. In some cases, a little bit of elbow grease may be needed as it all depends upon the quality of carnauba wax that is used. The higher the content of Carnauba, the easier the graffiti will come off.
- Acetone can also be used to remove graffiti. If this process is chosen, we suggest that heavy scrubbing be kept to a minimum and that a good coat of automotive wax is applied after the graffiti has been removed. When using any type of solvent, please be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions and observe all safety precautions.
- Stainless steel finish (Now only available on thruWall™ returns)
- thruwall™ units or older outdoor return units made from stainless steel, to include those with clear-coating, will maintain its new appearance for years with regular maintenance. It should be noted that stainless steel will discolor if exposed to corrosive environments including high salt content (coastal areas) and road chemicals. UNITS MUST BE REGULARLY WASHED WITH A MILD DETERGENT AND WATER. Never use harsh chemicals or abrasives on stainless steel, as they will remove the natural-forming barrier “skin” that makes stainless steel “stainless”. A commercial grade stainless steel cleaner should be used to clean the unit between washings following the instructions on the label.
- Once stainless steel is scratched or dented, there is no way to repair it. However, it should be touched up immediately as rust can form on bare metal. Use an automotive grade clear-coat to touch it up and brush it into the scratch. Additional washings will help to keep discoloring from forming.
- Note: The discoloring, usually a rust color, is only discoloration. Units will probably never “rust through” or corrode.
Indoor Returns
- Powder coat finishes
- Need regular dusting to retain their new appearance.
- Scratches and blemishes can be touched up to obtain the return’s nice finish.
- duraWood™ finishes
- Dust regularly
- Use soapy water or a mild, all-purpose cleaner without ammonia
Moving Parts
- Doors, Drawers, Casters, Locks and all other moving parts should be oiled regularly using a lightweight machine oil (3in1, WD40 or like)
